WHAT IS FASHION WEEK OPPS? 

Fashion Week Opps, also known as Fashion Week Opportunities, is a blog created by a former NYFW intern who has interned at for numerous designers and events during NYFW. She wanted to create, help, give FREE advice to those who are looking to gain experience during NYFW. These opportunities are usually non-paid, but are aimed toward volunteers, internship seekers, and those who want to gain experience and/or boost their resumes.

HOW DO I GET A INTERNSHIP OR VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY? 

Depending on what the designer, event specialist, etc is seeking, make sure you follow through and submit everything that is requested. A good resume, cover letter and patience is all you need and then finally, APPLY!

ARE THESE INTERNSHIPS/OPPS PAID?

You’re in the wrong place! These opportunities are usually non-paid & are aimed toward volunteers, internship seekers, and those who want to gain experience and/or boost their resumes. NYFW is fun, hectic, and a one of a kind experience for those who have a passion to learn and go behind the scenes during one of the most important weeks in the fashion industry. 

SO, WHAT’S IN IT FOR ME? 

An opportunity to learn/work with people who already have your dream job or career. A chance to network, make friends, be invited to shows and after parties, free gift bags and items, mingle with celebs, photo ops, exposure and a chance to get an actual job. Yes, an actual paid job. If you do extremely well, why wouldn’t they want to keep in contact with you for future events? 

DO I HAVE TO BE A FASHION STUDENT TO VOLUNTEER/INTERN?

It all depends on YOU. If you have a true passion to learn about a certain designer or be part of an event, you don’t have to be a student. My major was Engineering/PR but I was so ambitious to work for a designer that I admired, I applied with may I add, no experience and scored the gig. 

DO I NEED EXPERIENCE?

It depends. Some require no experience at all. Some require other skills besides fashion, that could range from being good with people, a good director, from even being an expert with social media! (Yes, having knowledge of Twitter finally comes in handy!)
